Comprehensive Community Initiatives Directory
Agenda for Children Tomorrow (ACT) has catalogued and created a directory of all agencies, organizations and initiatives throughout the United States that could be described as a Comprehensive Community Initiative or similar Community-Based Organization. As a self-described public private initiative with comprehensive community basis, Agenda for Children Tomorrow hopes this directory will provide a more complete understanding and knowledge base of organizations throughout the nation that could potentially aid one another in their endeavors through partnerships, support, suggestions and encouragement. Attached is the complete directory ACT catalogued as a result of its ongoing research.
Court Interpreting in New York: A Plan of Action
An adequate and effective court interpreting program is critical to provide many people with the most basic access to justice and equitable treatment in the courts. ACT has been deeply involved in the efforts to reform the current court interpreting policies and practices in New York State. On April 5, 2006, the Task Force on Women in the Courts, with support from ACT, sponsored the event "The State of New York Court Interpretation: Are We Talking the Talk?" The event included remarks by Judge Lippman, who presented OCA's Court Interpreting in New York: A Plan of Action, as well as a discussion by a panel of experts, including Mr. Brettschneider, who represented a broad spectrum of viewpoints.
Enhancing Health in Bushwick: Ensuring Access to Quality Health Care
The Bushwick ACT Collaborative held a Legislative Breakfast in October 2005 at which community stakeholders highlighted the recommendations in this paper. City agency representatives, legislative officials and community-based organizations responded by proposing possible plans for implementing the recommendations. As a result of the Collaborative's work, New York City Council Member Diana Reyna managed to re-instate funding for the Hope Gardens Asthma Initiative, which had been forced to close the year before due to loss of funding.
