News and Updates

Welcome!

Friday, August 17, 2007

Hello Everyone!

First and foremost, welcome to the new Agenda for Children Tomorrow website!  Thanks to our summer interns, we finally found the time to make this site more intuitive, interactive, and comprehensive.  There may be a few glitches, but we're working hard to maintain the website and apologize for any inconvenience.

ACT continues its hard work on various projects all over New York City.  We recently celebrated the successful end of the One City One Community Pilot Project, as well as the continued expansion of the ACS Community Partnership Initiative into the final targeted communities.   We continue making strong steps towards improved child welfare outcomes through Bridge Builders in Highbridge and our work with ACS Community Partnership Initiative.  We continue to support other ACS initiatives such as the CRADLE project in Bedford Stuyvesant and the Neighborhood Network in Brownsville/East New York. IMPACT, our Family Resource Center in Bushwick is flourishing. We are beginning to dive into new projects including a Youth Public Policy Advocacy Project and the Administration for Children's Services Immigration Project.  We are digging deeper into the state of New York City in hopes of bringing to light issues that greatly affect needy families and children, but have yet to be bought to the table.  We encourage everyone to take a moment to browse through our website for more information regarding ACT's current projects and future plans.

Other important news…

After 18 years, ACT’s leadership is changing.  Eric Brettschneider, Founder and Executive Director, and Anthea McLaughlin,  Associate Executive Director have both recently left ACT..  Eric is now at the United Way of New York City and is serving as Interim Senior Vice President.  Anthea is relocating to Trinidad with her family.  We want to thank both of Eric and Anthea for their many years of visionary leadership, extraordinary professionalism and tireless devotion.  We cannot express in words how grateful we are for their leadership, but more importantly their friendship and constant support.  We wish them all the best!

Last, but certainly not the least, we are proud to announce our new Interim Co-Directors Deborah Rubien and La Trella Penny.   Both of these accomplished women have spent quite some time with ACT and we are more than excited to have them lead us through this time of transition.

We are planning to hold our Oversight Meeting within the first two weeks of October.  More information will be released as the date and location are finalized.

We hope you enjoy the new website. We will keep you posted on our upcoming events and initiatives.

Best,
The ACT Team
